It is every paranormal investigator’s dream to find the most haunted place in their area. This searching could take months or years. The key is to always keep an eye out on where ghosts are most likely to exist. You would be surprised how easily you can find them once you know where to look.

The easiest place to start is by looking through old newspapers at the library. Look for places where mysterious or violent deaths occurred. Make sure to note accurate times and details, as these will help in your investigation. The best places to look for are battlefields or locations of mass murders. It could even be found on the side of the road where a person was killed in a car accident. Always keep your eyes and ears open for locations related by word of mouth.

The second easiest places to look would be cemeteries and mausoleums. Apparitions and ghosts have been notable presences in these locations all over the world since the beginning of recorded history. Local records at the library will help with locating prominent graves within the cemetery. Look for persons who were either killed suddenly or were subjected to a painful or agonizing demise. These people tend to be stuck here and are the most reported being seen by living people.

Next on the list would be old hotels or buildings. Look for buildings that are at least 100 years old. The older the building, the better chance you will have with your investigation. Doing your research at the library, again, will greatly assist you in your search and will equip you with the knowledge and history of your selected building. Even better would be to find someone that was associated with the building and get information from them. These historians can offer wonderful insight into what has happened and where to start within the location.

Other buildings with reputations for being filled with ghosts are brokedown factories, old schools, colleges and almost every old church. All of these locations are worth checking into. Most of these buildings will have stories of spirits seen walking the grounds, roaming the halls or floating down staircases. You may even find that some of these locations report multiple hauntings by ghosts.

Last, but not least, are old prisons, state hospitals and mental health facilies. Any location where people were gathered in close quarters to suffer is a great place to find lingering spirits. Most prisons and closed hospitals report dozens of restless souls still occupying the grounds and halls of these places of doom.

Wherever you choose to investigate, make sure you follow the cardinal rules of ghost hunting:
Always have permission.
Always put your safety first.
Always bring extra batteries.

Happy hunting!

When looking for a group to join what do you look for? There are many different things you should consider before jumping in right away. Make sure the group is one that is not in it for thrill seeking, unless that is the type you are looking for. But I would not recommend it. Ghost hunting is not like you see at the movies, waiting for a ghost to jump out and say “BOO”. It is very time consuming, like a stake-out, just waiting for hours on end and sometimes nothing at all will happen.

Sometimes it can take months to years to find a core group of members. With this type of member, they are dedicating many hours of their time and hard work to the group. Core members have a close relationship with other members, most keep in contact on a day to day basis.

When looking, read up on the site and make sure that there isn’t anything negative posted about other groups. That speaks loud enough and would make anyone take a detour away from them. If all a group has to do is put down other groups, what does that say about the group itself?

Look at evidence, what a group may post as paranormal phenomena could also help you make your decision. Those that post matrixed images, tons of orbs and poor pixel pictures are just wanting to post something to make it look like they have something. If you cannot see it clearly then it needs not to be posted, it makes the group look like they don’t know what they are talking about.

Look for documentation of investigations (aka case report write ups) This is the best sign that a group is serious. They are documenting meter readings, the history of the location, the complete weather and moon phase for that night, individual comments and the time paranormal activity happened.

Serious groups will do a preliminary interview with the client, ask questions off forms so they can make the right judgement before the investigation and where exactly to set up equipment. It is always a must to have a game plan before stepping one foot into the clients home or business.

Trespassing, never join a group that trespasses! You can google locations of places that a group has gone to and it will usually bring up results on “so-called” haunted places or urban legends. Some groups may even post places they have trespassed on which most senior groups know are off-limits. If you see these places listed in their section, a word of advice is to step back! These groups are giving honest paranormal researchers a BAD name and they know who they are. We could give examples of groups that do this, but we would rather you see for yourself .

So when you are looking for serious group of investigators, try to remember some of the things listed above. It could help you stay clear of trouble and worry!

Happy Hunting!

Folklore the world over is replete with ways to ward off ghosts, prevent them from entering homes, or force them to depart from homes or sites. Some charms are simple and quick gestures, such as crossing one’s self, while others are elaborate rituals. Ghosts generally are assigned the same category as evil spitrits; thus, what works against demons usually is seem to be equally effective against ghosts.

Crossing one’s self is a common charm to ward off ghosts, demons and the evil eye. Various gems and stones, such as chalcedony or obsidian, carried or worn on the perosn, will protect one against ghosts. Salt, carried in the pocket or strewn across a threshold, will keep ghosts, evile spirits and witches at bay; a pinch thrown over the left shoulder will bring good luck. Metals such as iron and silver are also effective. An iron rod placed on a grave will prevent the ghost from rising out of the ground, and an iron hosreshoe hung over a doorway will prevent a ghost from enterin g a house, stable or building. Iron nails taken from a tomb and driven into the threshhold of a door will prevent nightmares. Pins should be stuck in gateposts where corpses have passed by in funeral processions; these will keep away evil and ghosts.

Silver amulets and jewelry also keep away evil and ghosts. Some ghost investigators wear crucifixes when checking out an alleged haunting. Any religious symbol or good luck piece may be substituted for a crucifix as long as the individual believes in its protective powers. The advantage is most likely psychological, but like the placebo effect, it seems to work.

In English lore, when a person dies, all door, cupboard and window locks must be undone, and doors and windows opened, so that the soul has free egress out of the house. If a person “dies hard” and has difficulty entering the afterworld, the spirit trapped in the house may haunt it.

Corpses must be carried out of a house feet first, otherwise the ghost of the dead perosn will return. Touching a corpse will prevent one from being haunted by dreams of the ghost of the dead. The knots in the corpse’s shroud must be untied before the coffin lid is nailed shut, lest the ghost of the deceased wander about, visiting its former home. During the funeral, the furniture in the bedroom of the deceased should be rearranged, so that if the ghost comes back, it will not recognize the surroundings and will leave. Similarly, the funeral party should take a different route home than the route by which the body was transported. This will foil the ghost of the dead from following them home.

It is universally believed that one must not speak ill of the dead. lest the ghost come and haunt the living. Spoken references to the dead should be accompanied with phrases such as “God rest his or her soul” or “poor man
