You are sitting at home alone and hear heavy footsteps coming from the room above, doors open and close on there own or items seem to vanish and cant be found. What about that strange scent of perfume that just comes from out of nowhere. This could be a strong indication your house may be haunted. First of all is to try and recreate as much as you can to determine whether your house is truly haunted or not. How can you determine if it is real or not? Each and every haunting is different in there own way, they can range from subtle noises to full blown apparitions. Here are some tips that may help you determine if you are experiencing a haunting.

Unexplained Noises: knocks, banging, scratching, footsteps, rapping. some of these may be really loud at times, like something being dropped.

Strange Animal Behavior: Animals barking for no apparent reason or chasing invisible objects. Animals have better senses than humans

Electrical Items being turned off & on: Lights flipping on and off by there self, appliances turning off and on.

Doors Opening and Closing: Cabinets and doors open and close on there own or slamming.

Shadows: Catching glimpses of shadows out of the corners of your eye.

Feeling of being watched: Having the feeling you are being watched.

Feeling of being touched

Hearing Voices

Hot and Cold Spots

Unexplained Smells/odors

Poltergeists Activity is rare and the strongest evidence of a true haunting: Items being thrown, furniture moving on its own, physical assaults, apparitions, etc.

What Can You Do?

Try and find rational explanations for noises you hear, as in, check the plumbing, vermin.

Check for faulty hinges on the doors, windows and cabinets or check for drafts.

Talk to a friend, maybe they could help you find the source of the noises, etc. or better yet have them over more often, multiple witnesses that experience the same phenomena are more likely to be taken seriously.

Document the phenomenon.

If you come to the conclusion that your house is indeed haunted and all explanations can be ruled out, then its time to contact a paranormal investigator.
