Long before the rise of modern civilization, lonely caves, overgrown riverbanks, windswept beaches, twisted forests, and endless plains were home to spirits of every kind. Even boulders, toadstool rings, and individual trees could serve as a specters lair. These locations, often known as power points or sacred sites, overflow with supernatural energies and are viewed by ghost hunters as the origianl “haunted houses”. In fact, in recent years it has been revealed that a great many of North America’s haunted buildings were originally constructed atop sites that Native America’s haunted believed to be haunted, sacred, or otherwise saturated with energies beyond mortal comprehension. While it is unknown whether or not such power points actually create ghosts or merely attract them, natural sites continue to be among the most active haunted locales on the continent.
Almost all natural haunted sites share a number of traits that are, quite logically, exhibited by most other haunted locations as well. For instance, a large percentage of natural haunts are near a body of water, a trend also found in haunted cemeteries and other burial sites.
The most obvious atrribute used to identify a natural haunt is the somber atmosphere that clings to such places. Although often located in the heart of pristine nature (such as in the center of a forest or along an isolated stretch of coastline), natural haunts are devoid of any signs of life and are likely to be surrounded by an eerie stillness. Foliage may have difficulty growing within a few feet of the haunt, and the sounds of birds or other animals will be strangely absent. The climate around a natural haunt operates by its own rules; For example, ghost hunters who approach one of these locations will find that the breeze they may enjoyed earlier in the day has suddenly been replaced by a chilling wind.
Because of the overriding supernatural presence, numerous natural haunts are considered cursed. Misfortune, ranging from injury to death, afflicts a staggering number of people who visits such haunted locales. In many cases, those who are slain by a natural sites “curse” rise again to join the ranks of those haunting the area, further intensifying the spectral manifestations.
However, lest one assume that all natural haunts are evil or malign, it must be noted that a great many are also places of great serenity and beauty. In some cases, the supernatural energies present actually enhance the natural surroundings to an amazing degree. Water blesses by paranormal forces is often pure and capable of cleansing the body and mind; while a forest “haunted’ by benevolent spirits can actually be welcoming and pleasant. For this reason, many people are drawn to such sites for meditation and reflection. In fact, many mortals become extremely attached to these retreats and refuse to leave, even after death. Thus, nature’s most divine creations often become haunted by kindlyghosts who simply wish to enjoy the beauty of the natural world for all eternity.

Ghosts are around us all the time, you might not know it but they are here. No one can say for sure exactly why they tend to haunt a certain location, but some places are more frequent than others. It could be because the person loved a particular place while they were alive and refused to leave it after they died. Another example could be they were murdered or died before their time and dont even know they are dead. Which ever the case is, they are around us. Here is a list of some of the more common places they may inhabit.
1. Hospitals
2. Schoolhouses
3. Cemeteries
4. Houses
5. Battleships or Battlefields
6. Churches
7. Bodies of Water (lakes, oceans, swamps)
8. Accident Scenes (they might not even know they are dead)
9. Museums (they could be attached to a particular item on display)
10. Old Buildings
11. Theatres
12. Historical Places
Use your imagination and see what works for you. Just remember the best rule of thumb is to include places that are rich in history on your investigations. That’s the basics in a nutshell…….study and know them well and you will be well on your way to capturing strange phenomena on film in the near future. I might add, once you start seeing the fruits of your labor, you will be hooked! And life will no longer be the same for you as it was before. Ghost hunting is a great hobby and can be a truly fulfilling one as well.
